Proper and accurate documentation is crucial to dental patient care

We use Curve Dental Software and you will have the chance help us with data entry for periodontal charting and inputting dental notes

Without completing the California Dental Board Approved Infection Control and Dental Practice Act courses (requirements to become an unlicensed dental assistant), you will not be able to participate in hands-on dental patient care or sterilization/room turnover

Wonderful! To be able to participate in hands-on dental assisting, you will need to take the following courses:

• A California Dental Board Approved 8-hour Infection Control Course

• A California Dental Board Approved 2-hour Dental Practice Act Course

Once you take these courses, send us your certificates and you can start scheduling shifts as an Unlicensed Dental Assistant

In addition to our volunteer orientation, you will follow our dental volunteer onboarding

Our Dental Director will provide 1 on 1 training on how to chart and note take in our Curve Dental software and volunteer expectations

You'll get to work with all kinds of medical and dental professionals to provide high quality dental care

We begin each 4 hour shift with a brief huddle (9:45am or 1:45pm) where whole dental team reviews team roles and the day's schedule

During the shift you will get the chance to assist in the input of data and recording of dental notes in our Curve Dental software

As a reminder, as a dental scribe, you will not be able to participate in the hands-on delivery of dental patient care

At the end of the shift the dental team will work together to review the day's care, prepare for the next clinic, and close up for the day

Many of our volunteers want to give back to their community while also participating in patient care

In the case of our dental scribes, some are new to dentistry and want more exposure to the field of dentistry
