  • As a Community Health Volunteer, you play a vital role in advancing health equity and expanding access to care for uninsured members of the San Francisco community. This role is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to both individual patient experiences and public health focused efforts.Volunteers serve on the front lines of compassionate care, helping patients feel seen, supported, and empowered while navigating the healthcare system. At the same time, they contribute to lasting impact through participation in quality improvement initiatives addressing not only immediate health needs but also the underlying factors that shape community well-being.

    This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about public health, committed to service, and motivated to be part of a mission-driven team working to reduce disparities and build a more just and accessible healthcare system.

    • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including gathering feedback, supporting data collection, and helping implement process improvements to enhance patient care and clinic efficiency.

    • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and provide precise interpretation to protect the integrity of medical information and avoid misunderstandings

    • Provide culturally sensitive interpretation, considering the cultural context and nuances of both the patient and the healthcare providers to foster mutual understanding and respect

    • At least 18 years of age

    • Vaccinated for Covid

    • Can provide proof of a negative TB test within the last 6 months

    • Can commit to a minimum of 6 consecutive months volunteering (two, four hour shifts per month) 

    • Can commit to in person orientation and trainings at 35 Onondaga Ave, San Francisco

    • Basic understanding of medical terminology and abbreviations

    • Strong communication and active listening skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and potentially stressful situations with professionalism and empathy

    • Excellent analytical skills to evaluate information, identify assumptions, and draw logical conclusions 

    • Understanding and adherence to HIPAA regulations

    • Comfortability with using computers including medical software 

    • Comfortability using interpreting software to communicate with patients who speak other languages

    • Teamwork
